As an undergraduate at Stanford University, I became deeply interested in Eastern spirituality and the evolution of human consciousness. After exploring a number of traditions, I immersed myself in India’s ancient teachings of Vedanta, drawn by its universality and its emphasis on Self-realization. Inspired deeply by the life of the great Bengali mystic, Sri Ramakrishna, I joined a spiritual community in southern California dedicated to his teachings. For fourteen years I steeped myself in the great philosophy and practice of Vedanta, which recognizes all religions as different paths to the one universal Truth.
An image of my first sculpture, “Gayatri”, came to me in a dream in the late 1990’s. It was a time in my life when I was experiencing confusion, uncertain of my life path. When I awoke from the dream, I sensed strongly that the sculpture wanted to be manifested in the material plane. Not being formally trained as an artist, I didn’t know where or how to start, but I felt committed to its creation. It took me about five years of experimentation with materials to perfect the design. During that span of time, I was introduced to Sacred Geometry. I realized that the designs I was creating always involved sacred geometric shapes. I was amazed and humbled — the alignment of Sacred Geometry with my own spiritual path was remarkable.
A friend once remarked that true art is not a product, but a service. That felt very true to me. It is my desire that this artform serve the deepest part of you. Each sculpture is created as an invocation to the Divine. May it awaken you to the sacred dimension within you and all around you, and bring healing, balance, beauty and tranquility to your world.
